Cape Town is the second-most populous city in South Africa, after Johannesburg. It is also one of the country’s three capital cities. A popular tourist destination as well as a city beloved amongst locals, Cape Town is both vibrant and diverse. From its fascinating museums to its rich local cuisine, there’s a reason why Cape Town attracts approximately 1.77 million visitors each year. One of the many things that make this city so special is its close proximity to nature. After a few days of exploring the South African capital, one can escape the urban streets and access some of the stunning natural sites nearby, many of which are situated just a short drive away. Whether you love water or land, there is truly something for everyone in Cape Town and its surroundings.

One of the most well-known natural sites in the Cape Town area is Table Mountain, and from a quick glance, it’s pretty understandable why. This natural wonder has an incredibly unique shape. With its flat table-like top, Table Mountain is one of the most amazing of its kind, drawing visitors from around the world to take in its special beauty. If you’re visiting Cape Town, it would be pretty hard not to take notice of this stunning mountain on the horizon and want to view it from up close. Another nearby site that’s perfect for nature lovers is Lion’s Head. Part of the Table Mountain National Park, the lookout is a popular destination amongst hikers. As an added bonus, it makes the perfect Insta-worthy snap from your vacation.

If you love going to the beach while you’re on vacation, then Cape Town will definitely not disappoint. One of the most beloved beaches in the area is Boulders Beach, which has been popular amongst tourists since back in the ’80s when a colony of African penguins decided to make this shore their new home. Last but not least, make sure not to leave South Africa without a visit to Cape Point. This beautiful rocky landscape is one of the most romantic and breathtaking spots in the country, and the perfect place to explore with that special someone. The ocean view is truly unforgettable.
