Television and film is currently in what has been called the Golden Age. It appears as though the industry keeps on pushing itself to new limits, and Tom Cruise has decidedly taken things one step further. The Hollywood heartthrob has battled aliens in 2005’s ‘War of the Worlds’, but he’s never gone to space. Tom Cruise and Elon Musks’ SpaceX are working with NASA to shoot an action film in outer space. NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine confirmed the news in a tweet. “NASA is excited to work with Tom Cruise on a film aboard the space station!” he wrote. “We need popular media to inspire a new generation of engineers and scientists to make NASA ambitious plans a reality.”

News outlet Deadline broke the news earlier this week. The movie is set to be the first narrative feature film shot in outer space. Not many details have surfaced, but the report says it would be filmed in Elon Musk’s spaceship. Musk has recently welcomed a new son with singer Grimes. He did, however, tweet a response to the NASA tweet, saying, “Should be a lot of fun!” Cruise is well known for taking risks while shooting his films. For the 2011 movie ‘Mission: Impossible- Ghost Protocol” Cruis scaled the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. And Elon Musk is no stranger to the film industry. In 2019, Musk voiced himself on the Adult Swim animated show ‘Rick and Morty.’ He has also appeared in numerous movies and television shows.
