The Guide to Self-Care
With the way we keep chasing new challenges at work, home, and other areas of our lives, it’s no surprise that we occasionally encounter burnouts. Burnout is a feeling of complete exhaustion and mostly leaves us feeling emotionally and physically drained. A common cause of burnout is lack of self-care and taking on more than we can handle at a given time. People define self-care as anything you do to make yourself feel better emotionally and physically.
Although self-care seems like another trendy buzzword, studies show its role in helping you manage stress, enhance productivity, and even improve interactions with others around you. As individuals are different, their forms of self-care may vary. Figuring out what works best for you is essential when you intend to indulge in some form of self-care. Here are some ways to treat yourself.
How about a solo date? On one of your days off, go to your favorite coffee shop and sit and enjoy watching people go about their daily lives. Simply being in the moment with nowhere to go is a great way to decompress and detox from life’s worries. If you’re looking for something adventurous, plan a solo trip to a place you’ve always wanted to visit.
Another way is to give yourself a treat day. Get together your favorite skincare products, wine, and scented candles. You can add music, adjust your lighting to match your intended mood, and give yourself a scented body soak while sipping your favorite wine and reading your book.
Another way to detox is to have a good laugh. Get together your favorite movies of all time, and spend a night binge-watching on your favorite tv shows. Lastly, spend quality time with friends and family. Call your friends together, plan a fun date, and talk about everything. Friends and family make a great support system and ensure you don’t go through rough times alone.
