May Food Holidays To Spice Up Your Month
Everybody loves a good holiday. And everyone enjoys eating yummy foods. Luckily for us all, there is a way to combine these two universal pleasures. Because apparently, nearly every day of the calendar year is a secret national holiday devoted to celebrating one tasty food or another. And while you probably won’t get the day off from work, that doesn’t mean you can commemorate the occasion by indulging in the food of the day. Here are some delicious food holidays in May.
May 13: National Buttermilk Biscuit Day

Mmm. Is there anything more satisfying than the smell of freshly baking buttermilk biscuits? We think not. Outside of North America, the word biscuit usually implies a cookie-like treat. But here in the United States, a biscuit is a soft, leavened quick bread, meaning that it generally doesn’t call for yeast. These buttery, flaky treats are a wonderful way to impress your family at Sunday morning brunch. Serve with jam and butter.
May 20: Pick Strawberries Day

This day in May isn’t merely devoted to the sweet, red berry. Rather, May 20th is all about going out and picking some strawberries yourself. Strawberry picking is the perfect activity for a romantic first date or for the whole family to enjoy. All you’ll need is a cute basket, a hat and shades, and some clothes you can rough up, and you’ll be ready to harvest this classic summer fruit in no time.
May 26: National Blueberry Cheesecake Day

Cheesecake is already a perfect treat as it is. But add some blueberries, and you’ll be taking this classic dessert to the next level. Blueberries are considered to be a superfood, as they’re packed with potassium and Vitamin C. They’re also full of antioxidants which are great for lowering the risk of heart disease and other illnesses. So if you’re going to indulge in a creamy slice of cheesecake, might as well make it a slice of blueberry cheesecake.

There’s just something about a pretty box of macaroons that makes us wish we were strolling around Paris. Fortunately, you don’t have to travel to the city of love in order to enjoy these colorful creations. Thanks to their perfectly Instagrammable appearance, macaroons have become super popular in recent years and can now be found at bakeries and confectioneries around the world. Bon appetit!
