With the help of a blender, you can turn just about anything into a delicious, brightly colored smoothie. They are a great way to jam in a whole bunch of ingredients, containing a variety of nutrients that are beneficial for your body. Smoothies are extremely versatile, and the possibilities are endless, from the liquid you base it on, all the way to the toppings you garnish it with. We’re gonna give you some ideas to work with, and hopefully help you create your perfect smoothie.

The base for any smoothie is going to be a liquid. The choice here is extremely broad, and you can pick whichever one will suit your needs best. Common choices are water, different juices and milk, plant-based milk alternatives will work too, and so will ice cream and yogurt. As these all have different consistencies, you may choose to add some crushed ice as well.

If you want to go for a nutrient-dense, fiber-packed smoothie, you’ll want to add spinach, kale or other greens, while oats also work here, make sure you presoak them first just to soften them a bit. Fruits and veggies are going to make up the bulk of the smoothies. Again, it’s important here to consider the desired thickness you want to achieve. Bananas and dates will make a thicker smoothie, whereas most fruits will be more watery. You can also use frozen fruits for a grittier texture.

Here’s the part where you can add extra nutrients that you may want to sneak in, such as protein powder, turmeric, or even flax or chia seeds. Peanut butter and tahini will pack a nice punch, as will cocoa powder or some other nut butter. Once you’ve blended everything up, Try garnishing with some coconut or cocoa nibs, or even a crushed up oreo. What a great way to start your morning!
