No one can deny that K-pop is making a name for itself in the world. The genre, which stands for South Korean pop music, is becoming almost as popular abroad as it in its home country, with huge fan bases in countries like the United States, as well as throughout Europe. One of the most popular K-pop bands, Blackpink, has undoubtedly contributed to the success of the music genre abroad. During their 2018-2020 world tour “In Your Area,” the South Korean girl group performed on stages around the world, confirming the fact that K-pop music is officially a worldwide phenomenon. Recently, Blackpink has had even more good news to share with the world. In the past week alone, the girl band broke multiple Guinness World Records.
Blackpink’s music video for “How You Like That” was released on June 26. Within the span of just 24 hours, the clip garnered over 86 million views, breaking the records for most-viewed Youtube video in 24 hours, most-viewed music video on Youtube in 24 hours, and most-viewed music video in 24 hours by a K-pop group. The girl band beat out previous record holders, fellow K-pop group BTS, whose song “Boy With Luv” featuring Halsey broke the same records last year.

However, Blackpink didn’t stop there. The live premiere of the track on YouTube reached a peak of 1.66 million concurrent viewers, setting a new record for most viewers for the premiere of a video, as well as most viewers for the premiere of a music video. Currently, Blackpink already holds the record for the most followed female group on Spotify, as well as the record for music group with the most subscribers on YouTube. Clearly Jisoo, Jennie, Rose, and Lisa have nowhere to go but up, and are breaking quite a few records along the way.
